Late Saturday night a story broke in the Alaska Senate race about some reporters at the Alaska CBS affiliate KTVA suggesting that there would be a child molester at a rally for Republican nominee Joe Miller or maybe a fight. The audio was obtained after a KTVA staffer failed to successfully hang up the phone after leaving a voicemail.

KTVA responded lamely, basically taking the the Ratheresque position that the audio was real but inaccurate.

Having listened to the audio, I don’t believe this was part of a “gotcha” plot to really find a child molester (How would these reporters identify them? They don’t go around wearing “I diddle children” T-shirts.) I don’t believe they wanted to create a confrontation that led to fisticuffs.

No, this is nothing more than pseudo-intellectual masturbation by reporters. It’s stupid. It’s unprofessional. And the only thing uncommon about it was that it was caught on tape.

This just in: the media is overwhelmingly liberal. This is watercooler talk. Yes, KTVA viewers should take this into account when assessing the station’s reporting. But an actual plot on how to paint Miller as some sort of extremist this was not. They don’t need to connive to do something like that – they all think the same way.
