Playing the game

The dumbest thing the news media does on a regular basis is failing to identify corrupt Democrats in news stories. It’s stupid because it fools no one but continues to erode what little trust anyone has in the media.

Today former Democratic Rep. William “Cold Cash” Jefferson was convicted on 11 of 16 counts of corruption. Of the Big 3 networks, ABC mentioned Jefferson’s party, CBS ignored the story altogether and NBC managed to do a minute-long segment never mentioning that Jefferson was a Democrat.

On the newswire side, Reuters also failed to mention Jefferson’s political party.

You’d think this game of “name the party” would get old, but it doesn’t. The media appear to want to continue to play, and continue to lose their credibility at every turn.

  1. Do you remember that recent raid on NJ officials? Every newspaper listed their names but I can't recall one that listed the party affiliations after the names. Only one newspaper said that officials from both parties were arrested, and sure enough, when I checked, one and only official was a republican.
