Remember Tiananmen

Twenty years ago today the Chinese communist government murdered untold numbers of pro-democracy demonstrators in Tiananmen Square. Wall Street Journal columnist Claudia Rosett, who was at the protests, remembers.

That summer, after my junior year of high school, included a family trip to Washington, D.C. There, on July 4, I purchased a T-shirt from some Chinese students which called for the arrest of Deng Xiaoping for murder.

It's hard to believe that it's been 20 years and China is still not free.

  1. Matt, thanks for all you do to keep us informed. Your blog is my daily coffee break. Could you help me understand the Palestinian issue? I have been trying to figure it out, but it is so complicated. I have been trying to locate a concise article that will show me who is who and where they are and want to settle. No luck so far.

Thanks. Keep up the good work, we need journalists like you to keep us sane.
