A quick thought

Do you remember the Democrat conspiracy theory that said Republicans wanted to cut taxes to "starve" government (aka starving the beast) and eventually get rid of all social programs due to a lack of money?

Is it possible that President Barack Obama and the Democrats are trying to destroy the stock market in order to end the use of 401(k)s, 403(b)s and individual retirement accounts and expand Social Security?

I will now fold and return my tinfoil hat to the bottom dresser drawer.

  1. If the Democrats want an excuse to get their tin foil hats ready, then I'll give them one. I believe all social programs are unconstitutional. My reasoning is that the basis for social programs is moral, basically "it is the right thing to do". Moral arguments are based on a belief system, a religion. The character of a state religion is such that those who do not believe in it are forced through taxation to support it. Therefore every social program which is not unanimously agreed to violates the establishment clause of the First Amendment.

Yes, I'm willing to starve them.

  2. Ken,

I have an even bigger state religion for you. Environmentalism generally, and anti-climate change specifically is the new state religion. I went to my son's classroom the other day and I thought to myself, "Heaven help him if he expressed any doubt about global warming".

Do a thought experiment. Replace every environmental poster you see with a picture of Jesus Christ. Replace every pronouncement by a politician urging us to do something about global warming with a pronouncement urging us to accept Jesus Christ as our savior. If I had to live in that environment (no pun intended) my head would explode within a day and I am a Christian! Can you imagine what the NY Times would have to say about that?

  3. Bruce,
I'd agree that environmentalism is a religion for some people and those people tend to try to control government and education. But environmentalism is only a part of the church of statism. It the statists can't take our liberty and our money with climate change, they'll try it with other forms of social welfarism. I agree government promotion of belief based environmentalism is unconstitutional and hope you'll agree that all forms of "there ought to be a law" activism are equally unconstitutional.

    Best regards.
