Obama's "My Pet Goat" moment

President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama went to a Washington, D.C. public school today that isn't good enough for their daughters and read a book.

Curiously, at approximately the same time, 92-year-old Jewel Kitrel got a visit from the Arkansas National Guard a week after being cut off from the rest of the world.

Kitrel has lost almost all of her vision, and Franks said they had to explain to her that they were sent to check on her and bring her food and water after the debris from an ice storm made it impossible for her regular nurse to bring her food.

"She just broke down and started crying," said Franks. "She was so happy that we had come out there, and that we cared enough to come out and see her to make sure she was alright."

The guardsmen asked the resilient Kitrel how she was doing, to which she replied, "Well, I'm just hungry." Franks didn't know how long she had been without food, but said she was in fair health, considering the conditions.

The men gave her a survival meal and asked her to come back with them to Marmaduke, where she could stay in a shelter. But Kitrel refused.

"We tried to get her to come back with us, but she was pretty adamant about not leaving," Franks said as he chuckled slightly recalling the event. "She said she was more comfortable there than she would be anywhere else."

The small shack contained only the small wood-burning stove, a bed, a couch, and a tiny kitchen area. There was one, dark light bulb that hung in the middle of the room -- apparently the only element of Kitrel's home that used electricity.

Kitrel had been living in the tiny building for over two months, after her home burned down from an accident with a wood-burning fire. Franks said he didn't think Kitrel ever had electric heat to fight the winter cold at her home off a deep country road in Greene County, but had always used wood.

And still no public statement from the president asking Americans to help the people in Kentucky and Arkansas affected by this natural disaster. He hasn't visited the area either. The national media aren't interested in what's going on there, so Obama doesn't care either.

Apparently Obama just doesn't like old white women.
