Inequal justice

From Sheboygan, Wisc., comes these two crime items:

Wednesday: 17-year-old boy charged with felony for allegedly having sex with his 14-year-old girlfriend.

Thursday: 17-year-old girl charged with misdemeanor for allegedly having sex with her 14-year-old boyfriend.

The maximum term for the female: 9 months.

The maximum term for the male: 25 years.

Here's the "logic" from the prosecutor:

[Assistant District Attorney Jim] Haasch also said the cases are different because Guthrie's boyfriend is "almost 15," with a birthday in February. Jepsen's girlfriend turns 15 in April.

Two months, and gender, make all the difference.

Your criminal justice system at work.
