The mature and the immature

Some celebrities are adults:

When Barack Obama finished his acceptance speech Thursday night (Aug. 28) at the Democratic National Convention, a lot of country fans were no doubt surprised — or downright shocked — that Brooks & Dunn’s “Only in America” provided the soundtrack to the festivities while the Obama family and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden walked among the spiraling confetti to celebrate. After all, George W. Bush had used that same song as one of his themes for his 2004 presidential campaign.

...

Kix Brooks said in a written statement, “Seems ironic that the same song Bush used at the Republican Convention last election would be used by Obama and the Democrats now. Very flattering to know our song crossed parties and potentially inspires all Americans.” Additionally, songwriter Don Cook told the The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville, “Bush wasn’t the only one who used it. John Kerry used it, too. He played it at the (Democratic) convention in 2004 also.” Cook added, “There is nothing in it that would suggest any political leanings. I like the fact that it doesn’t. I like the fact that both sides can feel comfortable with that message.”

Some are not:

Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

Heart, which hasn't had a hit in nearly two decades, should be happy that anyone's still playing their music.
