Memories

I was going through some old files, straightening some things up, when I came across some of my old Cal Poly "Student Grade Reports." It's been nearly a decade since I graduated, and I've forgotten many of these classes I was required to take.

Interestingly enough, I came across my final grade report -- I had a 3.394 GPA for the quarter that I graduated. Got a B in Agriculture and American life -- a class I actually remember. Only at an AG school do you take "field trips" to the Swine Unit. It was a great class. After a field trip to an on-campus orange orchard, the instructor directied us to grab all the oranges we could carry. I ate oranges for a week.

Curiously enough, my highest grade that quarter was an "A" in Sociology 315: "Race Relations." I don't remember a thing about that class. I don't remember who the instructor was, what time of day it was or anything else about it.

I seem to have gotten through the experience without any permanent scars.

I'm sure I took the class because it was a general education requirement, but to paraphrase an old saying: "Everything I ever needed to know about race relations, I learned in kindergarten."

Unlike many "civil rights" leaders nowadays -- I judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
