A fool or a tool?

Our worst ex-president had an op-ed piece in yesterday's Washington Post that must be read to believe. Carter accuses Israel of starving the people in Gaza and accepts Hamas' explanation that the only way that they can fight back is to launch thousands of rockets into Israel. Apparently Hamas can't smuggle in food, but they've got no problem smuggling in rockets.

Starvation today in the world is exclusively the result of politics -- not a shortage of food. If people are starving in Gaza, it's because Hamas isn't interested in feeding them.

But the kicker to Carter's dishonest narrative is this line:

And this fragile truce was partially broken on Nov. 4, when Israel launched an attack in Gaza to destroy a defensive tunnel being dug by Hamas inside the wall that encloses Gaza. [emphasis added]

A defensive tunnel? Like the kind they used to kidnap Gilad Shalit 2 1/2 years ago? The "defensive tunnel" that Hamas was using to bring in rockets and not food? That "defensive tunnel?"

Carter claims that Israel broke the truce -- but these charts show that while the "truce" greatly diminished the rocket and mortar attacks, they never stopped.

The simple fact of the matter, which Carter, the previously mentioned Glenn Greenwald, and their ilk can't get their heads around is this: There is no way to have peace with a group that wants only one thing -- you dead.

Carter's apologia and attempts at moral equivalence do nothing to help the situation -- and a lot to make things worse for both sides.
