Charges dropped
It appears as though efforts by some in the military and media to turn a tragedy into a crime are going to fail. Yesterday, Lt. Gen. James Mattis decided not to court-martial Lance Cpl. Justin L. Sharratt and Capt. Randy W. Stone.
Sharratt was involved in a firefight with insurgents that tragically left some women and children dead. Stone was accused of failing to properly investigate the incident. You can read Mattis' statements on the two men's cases here.
James Culp and Gary Myers, two attorneys for Sharratt, said Mattis' decision did not surprise them.
“We thought it said two things. One is that Mattis gets it. He understands how difficult it is to make a decision that withstands 20/20 hindsight in the midst of combat,” Culp and Myers said in a joint statement. “Two, Mattis is interested in doing the right thing regardless of what is politically correct.”
These two are among the men that Rep. Jack Murtha slandered, accusing them of committing murder "in cold blood."

Murtha only wants his own constituents contacting him by e-mail, but you can get around this by using the ZIP code for his own district office that appears just to the right.

How do I contriubute to the costs for a slander lawsuit against Murtha? The guy so deserves it. I guess, First Lance Cpl. Justin L. Sharratt and Capt. Randy W. Stone have to be interested in pursuing that path. It would be too sweet if they did.
Don't celebrate too soon. The prosecutor cast a wide net. These are the small fry. SSgt Wuterich is the one that was in charge on the scene who made these horrible decisions which were made deliberately (as in, he had plenty of time to think and reflect on what to do).
As a Marine who was in Haditha less than two months before this occurred, I hope they fry him based on his own statements to the public. If his own statements are true, then there is no doubt that he willfully and flagrantly disobeyed easily understood rules of engagement and murdered these people.
Just because the two most junior Marines obeyed his orders and are not being prosecuted does not mean that others are not guilty.
Murtha is detestable, and his statements (before Wuterich made his own public statements) were irresponsible, but that doesn't mean he is wrong.
To be able to hold my own head up with pride in belonging to the same organization as Wuterich, I hope that his own statements are either proven wrong or that he is found guilty. Marines don't tolerate murderers.
Btw, Capt Stone is a good man, and I'm glad he wasn't involved. I didn't meet the corporal.
Pounding Murtha is ok, but he is immune, the slime. What we really need to be doing is pounding the Speakers office for a call for censure. Then contribute to a slander suit against Murtha.
Musrtha is not immune from suit. Immunity only covers what he says on the floor of the House. I believe, he made his comments on national TV. In this venue, he is treated as any other citizen.
