Pervert in the House

Florida Republican Rep. Mark Foley resigned from the House Friday amid allegations that he is a pervert and sexual predator.

ABC News reported yesterday that it had interviewed Foley, 52, about excerpts of instant messages provided by current and former pages under the age of 18. ABC reported that Foley, under the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, made repeated references to sexual acts and body parts. Foley's spokesman did not respond to a Washington Post request for comment on the ABC report.

Foley was a six-term congressman. How long has he been doing this and why'd it take so long for him to get caught?

There's no mention of it, but some district attorney in Florida ought to look into possible charges against Foley.

  1. I agree - Foley is a pervert.

But he did the honorable thing and resigned. Now compare this to the case of Gerry Studds, the pervert Dem from Massachusetts who raped male pages, yet had the Dem-controlled House merely censure him. Compare it to Barney Frank, whose lover was running a gay prostitution ring from his apartment. Or Jim McGreevey, who as Governor of NJ was cruising truck stops for gay sex. Notice that these 3 Dems all stuck around in office and none was ever investigated, much less indicted and convicted of a crime.

That's called political hypocrisy from the chattering class of media whores.

  2. Alexander,

We must really stop it with that sort of comparison. Both Barney Frank and Gerry Studds were investigated for their actions, and it can be fairly argued that the reason both got reelected was due to their electorate sending a general "up yours" to the CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS who made that an issue way back in 1989 (for Frank).

You want this sort of "double standard" to stop? Have CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN voters do the same sort of "up yours" behavior. Imagine the 50th District re-electing Duke Cunningham as a reaction to Dem bleating over "corruption." (Sorry, Matthew).

  3. Brad,

Congress, however, had the power to expell those two gentlemen and did not, which shows something. Mr Cash-in-the-freezer is still serving. I want this sort of behavior to stop.

Cynics who believe congress people are all self-serving crooks are evidently more correct than I feel comfortable acknowledging.

  4. MarkD,

Yep, and Mr. Cash-in-the-freezer will get re-elected by whomever is left in NOLA to vote for him. He's a victim of Da (Right-Wing) Man, doncha know! All I'm saying is that Evangelical Conservatives would get newfound respect (not to mention a bipartisan push for "this sort of behavior to stop") if they tried similar measures. But then, I'm the same sort of person who thinks Evangelical Conservative trial lawyers (There are a few, Matthew!) ought to try a legal strategy against the Gaming industry.
